Soul Men is an upcoming American musical-dramedy film directed by Malcolm D. Lee. It stars Samuel L. Jackson, Bernie Mac, Sean Hayes, Jennifer Coolidge and Isaac Hayes, who appears as himself. It is currently in post-production and set to be released on November 7, 2008. The movie has been rated R by the MPAA for pervasive language and sexual content, including nudity.
Mac and Isaac Hayes each died in unrelated circumstances in August 2008. Director Malcolm D. Lee said the film was heavily re-edited to soften the tone of the film, as a tribute to Mac and Hayes.[citation needed]
"A Walk In The Park", a song from the film performed by Mac, Jackson, and Sharon Leal, has been released as a single on the film's website.
Plot
Two former backup soul singers, Louis (Samuel L. Jackson) and Floyd (Bernie Mac) who have not spoken to each other in 20 years reluctantly agree to travel across the country together to a reunion concert to honor their recently deceased lead singer (John Legend). Cleo (Sharon Leal), a beautiful young woman who is believed to be Floyd's daughter, accompanies them as a new singer.
